Our working hours are 8.00am – 20.00pm, Monday to Friday. However, we also take bookings outside of these hours and on weekends.
How to Book
You can book an Interpreter either by phone or online. To book by phone, call either 01752680027 or 08453702002 and you will be put through to an Account Manager who will deal with your request. To book online, simply enter your account number on the booking page and complete the form. You will receive confirmation as soon as an Interpreter has been booked. All urgent requests are aimed to be completed within 1 hour, whilst with regular bookings, we aim to complete requests within 24 hours.
We provide over 400 languages, including each of the top 40 most popular languages in Plymouth. We have a strict policy to only use native language interpreters and translators. We are always recruiting new interpreters and translators, especially if we find we are struggling to meet the demand of a certain language.
Face to Face Interpreting
Face to Face Interpreting is our most popular service and we provide interpreters in more than 400 languages. Where possible, we will provide interpreters who are qualified to an intermediate or advanced level. We may on occasion have to use a beginner or entry-level Interpreter, but we will seek your permission before doing so. Each Interpreter we use undergoes strict selection and appointment procedures, and are required to have a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. They are all regularly monitored and are frequently provided with in-house training, so they are always improving. Each Interpreter also follows a strict professional code of conduct.
Telephone Interpreting is an alternative to Face to Face Interpreting. We provide this service for more than 200 languages and it is often used for the more urgent bookings or bookings for which we have unfortunately been unable to provide a Face to Face Interpretation. Again, each Interpreter is highly qualified and is constantly undergoing training to improve their skills. They must have a DBS check and adhere to our strict professional code of conduct. This service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
All communication professionals who are interpreters for deaf and deafblind people are sourced only from the National Register for Communication Professionals working with Deaf and Deafblind people (NRCPD) or the Association of Sign Language Interpreters (ASLI). We only assign BSL Interpreters that have attained BSL NVQ Level 4 or above and mainly Level 6 Diploma (or equivalent), which are considered to be the best qualified. Interpreters that hold a BSL NVQ Level 3 Certificate may also be suitable for some interpretation uses. Qualified and suitably experienced foreign sign language interpreters can also be sourced and provided.
In the last five years we have translated over 10,000 documents. We translate all texts such as information leaflets, general letters, medical and legal documentation, and various media such as websites and audio. We are approved members of Professional Bodies; Association of Translation Companies (ATC) and Institute of Translators and Interpreters (ITI). Our efficient and knowledgeable Translation team ensure reliability, accuracy, speed, quality, cost effectiveness and cultural awareness.
All interpreters have access to a Continued Professional Development (CPD) programme delivered by both Language Empire and external organisations. Language Empire recognises and encourages access to a CPD programme in order to reinforce good practice, improve relevant skills, demonstrate the essential skills and knowledge required for their role and ensure that these skills are continually developed. CPD is an integral part of Language Empire’s approach to learning and performance, service development and the recruitment and retention of the best interpreters.
